Merry Christmas, Fred. Yes, I knew instantly....a bigger box for me is my desire for the coming year starting now: a bigger heart for Jesus with all the junk taken away so there is more room for love, mercy, faith, trust, truth, and faithfulness and all those other wonderful attributes Jesus is. Simply put - much more room for Jesus until nothing else resides in me but Him.

I wanted to send you a Christmas card and looked earnestly for your address yesterday for at least an hour but was not successful. So I pray this little note will suffice to let you know you are loved and appreciated by multitudes. Your life is a bright shining star pointing us to Jesus. May it ever be so. And should there be anytime in your life that you ever feel all alone and that nothing you have done has meant anything please remember this truth: You are a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ and your kindness shows in all your good deeds. One day when we are all in heaven with Jesus and all other faithful believers you will really know the results of your life. At this point perhaps is when our pearls are laid at His feet because without Him we can do nothing.

Fred, thank you for your goodness and your gracious giving which has meant more to me than could be expressed in words.

With a bigger box may I say thank you , Fred.

Prof. Schimdt,
Thank you for this kind reminder. I continue to use your stories you shared about 9-11 with us in our spiritual formation class way ack in 2002. This story also coincides with the message I've continue to share with the congregation about the greatest gift not being under the tree rather in our heart. I believe this year many of the members took a second look at the idea as we collected blankets for several weeks with the intent to donate them to a radio station's blanket drive. When the radio station decided not to hold the drive, we made contact with a homeless ministry in Houston and donated 117 blankets.

For me, it was 2 small rural UMC congregations started the drive, but later the AME, COGIC and members of at least 2 Baptist churches made donations. Out of the 117, 115 of them were brand new. It's the idea of getting a bigger box at its best especially when one considers the members in the 2 UMC churches are mostly retired and on fixed income.

So, yes we can always seek to get a bigger box when we think about the gift Jesus gave.
